Your Pool Is a Year-Round Asset
A Heater Lets You Use It Like One

From October through March, Arizona water temps drop into the 50s and 60s, leaving your pool empty for months. A properly sized gas heater extends your season to a full 12 months and puts your backyard investment to work year-round.

We size by pool volume and local climate, so you never pay for BTUs you don't need. Gas, plumbing, automation, and venting are all handled to code, with full pricing before we order.

What We Install

The right heater, properly installed, so you swim whenever you want.

About Pool Heater Installation in Arizona

MAKO Exclusive has been installing pool heaters in Arizona since 1998. Most Valley pool owners only think about heating two times of year: when fall sets in and the water drops below comfortable, and when a hot tub or spa-side bench is on the same equipment pad and they want it usable year-round. The right heater depends on which use case matters most and how often you swim through the cool months.

For pools that get used through winter (November through March in the Phoenix metro), a properly sized natural gas heater is usually the right call. Gas heaters have the BTU output to bring a 20,000-gallon pool from 60°F to 85°F in a day or less, which is what you need for "I want to swim today" use. Heat pumps are more efficient but slower; they're a better fit for owners who maintain a constant temperature through winter. We size and install both.

Heaters We Install

As a Pentair Certified Dealer, we install Pentair pool heaters with a 3-year parts-and-labor warranty: the MasterTemp series (the most common natural-gas heater in Arizona, available 200K-400K BTU), the ETi Hybrid (ultra-high-efficiency gas heater with electronic spark ignition), and the UltraTemp Heat Pump (electric heat pump for steady-state heating). We also install Raypak heaters (Avia, P-Series), Hayward Universal H-Series and HDF, Jandy JXi and LXi, Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm, and Lochinvar.

For most residential pools (15,000-30,000 gallons), a 200K-300K BTU gas heater is the right size. For larger pools, dedicated spas, or pools with significant heat loss (uncovered, exposed to wind), we go up to 400K BTU. Undersizing is the most common mistake we see: a 200K heater on a 35,000-gallon pool will run all day to gain 5°F. Right-sized installs save fuel and run quieter because they're not at max capacity constantly.

Gas, Electrical, and Plumbing: The Real Install Work

A heater install is more involved than a pump or filter swap. We handle gas line sizing and connection (a 400K BTU heater needs a 1" gas line at typical Valley pressure; smaller existing lines may need upsizing), flue venting (proper draft and clearance from building openings per code), electrical service (24V control wiring, bonding to the equipment pad, and 120V for blower motors), and plumbing (heater bypass valves, check valves, isolation valves so you can service later without draining the pool). We pull permits where required (typically for new gas service or gas line modifications), inspect for code compliance, and back the install with a 1-year labor guarantee on top of the manufacturer warranty.

Automation and Integration

Modern heaters integrate cleanly with pool automation systems. We connect the heater to Pentair IntelliCenter, EasyTouch, Hayward OmniLogic, or Jandy AquaLink, configure pool and spa setpoints, and program any scheduled heating you want (e.g. heat the spa to 102°F at 5 PM on weekdays, keep the pool at 82°F on weekends). All of this is included in a standard install; you don't have to call us back later to wire it up. Heaters that aren't tied to automation should still have a manual setpoint controller wired in, and we install that as well.

Costs, Warranties, and Same-Week Scheduling

Typical residential gas heater installs (200K-300K BTU) run $3,500-$5,500 all-in, including heater, gas line work, plumbing, electrical, and labor. Heat pump installs run $4,500-$7,000 depending on capacity. Permit costs (where applicable) are passed through at city rates. As a Pentair Certified Dealer, we offer a 3-year parts-and-labor warranty on qualifying Pentair heaters (MasterTemp, ETi, UltraTemp). Other brands carry the manufacturer's standard warranty (1-5 years depending on component).

There's no diagnostic fee and no obligation. We come out, walk your equipment pad, confirm gas line capacity, and write you a clear quote with the full breakdown. Same-week scheduling is typical for installs that don't require new gas service. For repairs on existing heaters, see pool heater repair.
